Though they were thousands of miles away Terry Gajraj and the JMC
Triveni shone at the two-night concert event of the millennium,
which featured King of the Indian File Industry Shah Rukh Khan,
and the starry-eyed Juhi Chawla as the top casts.
The affable stars even closed the show and bade farewell to their
fans to Gajraj's "Saki Boom" and
the pulsating rhythms of the JMC Triveni which provided back up music
for the chutney soca hit which was released last year.
Shah Rukh, Juhi, music director Anu Malik, singers Schewta Shetty
and Sapna Mukerjee along with their managers, dancers and musicians
danced to "Saki Boom" and even sang sang as they brought the curtains
down on the last show at Skinner Park, San Fernando, on Saturday
night.
Shah Rukh requested the "boom boom" song as he invited concert
promoters from Asian Entertainment International; Salisha Baksh,
Shanu and Narendra Saini and others involved in the concert onstage.
Chaitan Rana, a singer with the troupe also performed an impressive
rendition of "Saki Boom" as "a beautiful gesture from our side" on
both nights.
By the end of the second night it was clear the troupe was hooked
on the "boom boom" song. They were not only tapping their feet
but were swinging their hips and rocking their heads to the
chutney soca rhythm.
From the moment the Carib Shiv Shakti Dance Company led by
Michael Salickram performed a colourful and peppy dance to
the rhythmic "Saki Boom" at the Queens Park Savannah on the
first night of the concert, Shah Rukh and his troupe became
mesmerised with the raunchy hit.
Drawn by the heavy "pong" of the music, the visitors spilled
from backstage and took vantage points to look at the dance
sequence.
Devanand Gattoo's runaway hit "Payaaleeya" which he performed
seconds before the dance item failed to make an impact with
the troups.
Following the Carib Shiv Shakti's performance on the first
night Shah Rukh kept asking "what's the name of the song again,
the one that goes boom boom" and later on Malik, referred to
it when he performed what he called a "chatney" song - "Neend
Ki Maray".
And to cream the sizzling chutney, the visiting dancers asked
Salickram to teach them some of the intricate hrad and hand
movements, which the group performed to the "Saka! Sakay!
Aye! Aye! Saki! Boom! Boom! Saka! Sakay! Aye! Aye! Saki!
Boom! Boom!" chorus. And they performed teh sequence
onstage on the last night of the show.
The dancers also requested a copy of the song to take back
to India. Even Juhi was seen imitating the dancers when the
chorus started.
Gajraj and the JMC Triveni have definitely scored top points
with the visitors. And they are sure to earn more as the hot
number travels to India with the troupe.
Maybe "Saki Boom" will end up on Music Box with Nikki Aneja
teh MC or in an upcoming movie with Shah Rukh Khan performing
the moves taught to him by Salickram.
