Princess Anisa

Anisa Mohamed made her recording debut on Terry's Ragga Ding-a-Ling with her original song, New Amsterdam. She began writing lyrics and singing in 1998 with her own group, Nu Imij, in Dallas, Texas. Earlier this year, Nu Imij collaborated with Rassbai and the Cabinstabbers from Grapevine, Texas.

Before singing, Anisa danced Indian and Chutney at a few shows and concerts. She won the 1995 National Mashramani Competitions in Guyana for the 14-17 age category, though she was only 13 at that time. This is where she recieved the name "Princess", and she has kept it ever since.

Today, Princess Anisa performs with Wave International in Toronto, Canada as a lead and background vocalist. It is a new soca band, led by Steven Lokenan, who also plays the keyboard. The band also consists of Omash Singh on the drums, Justin "Rasta" Hilaire on the Bass, Isaac "Nattydred" Ramrup on the rhythm guitar, and Sleepy and Stanley Man as lead vocalists. She plans on making many more recordings and performances around North America, being one of the many musicians contributing to our West Indian culture.
